Local partnerships for the development of coastal regions: a review of Fisheries Local Action Groups with focus on the Mediterranean

In the last programming period of European Maritime Fisheries Fund, Local Action Groups (FLAGs) have been in charge meeting objectives Union Priority 4, aimed at boosting territorial cohesion and employment coastal areas. These local partnerships hence received support for elaboration development strategies that should promote both sectorial projects, balancing interests different stakeholders involved. This article provides a literature review scientific contributions on FLAGs, organizing main findings according to six dimensions Porter’s Diamond Model context cluster analysis communities’ competitiveness. Moreover, by focusing FLAGs from Italy, Spain France, paper discusses orientation towards sectoral Mediterranean. It emerges while has mostly emphasized their functions, FLAGs- especially those areas with relatively higher incidence fisheries-related sectors- prioritized projects scope.
